FEATURED FLYER - MIKE FELSKE

Flying a Piper Clipper made in 1949, the only year of production, might seem a little scary to some, but for our featured flyer, Mike, it’s loads of fun. Guess what one of his favorite places to fly to is? Bessie’s Diner for breakfast. We caught up with Mike to learn more about his flying experience and frequent trips to Bessie’s.

How long have you been flying?

I have been flying since 1978.

What airport do you currently fly out of?

Currently, I’m flying out of East Troy, 57C

What sparked your interest in flying out to Bessie's?

I really like how easily accessible it is (for planes)! Flying into a towered airport for good food is amazing.

What is your dream flying job?

My dream flying job is flying float planes for Kenmore Air.

What’s your favorite part about flying planes?

There have been so many interesting flights – As a glider instructor, as a Banner Tow Pilot over Chicago’s lakefront, that one flight on the Wright B Flyer, flying float planes, teaching my son how to fly and more. I have so many favorites!

Any words of advice for aspiring pilots?

Stick with it, don’t get discouraged and don’t give up. It’s a lifelong adventure that may lead you to many unexpected and exciting places.
