FEATURED FLYER - CHAD WEST

After a long flight, a hearty breakfast at Bessie’s feels like a dream. Our next featured flyer Chad, his wife Michelle and their plane named “dream catcher” couldn’t agree more. The couple flies all over the country, coast to coast, finding new adventures, but they love coming back to Bessie’s where they’ve fallen in love with the food and the atmosphere. We caught up with Chad to learn more about his flying experience and his frequent trips to Bessie’s.

What airport do you currently fly out of? Where do you typically like to fly to?

I live on a residential airpark in Blue Grass Iowa, identifier 60IA. We love to fly all over the United States, from the beaches in Florida, to the mountains of Colorado.

How long have you been flying? Tell us about your plane!

I have been flying for over 20 years, both airplanes and helicopters. Our plane is a 1985 Piper Dakota, which we have affectionately named, "DREAM CATCHER”.

What got you interested in flying?

I always wanted to be a police officer, but I also wanted to fly helicopters. I ended up doing both completing 28 years of law enforcement with 15 of those years as chief helicopter pilot.

What’s your favorite part about flying planes?

Our favorite part of flying is the total freedom to travel, and we love going from place to place, always returning to our favorite places like Bessie’s Diner.

What was your experience like at Bessie’s?

We love Bessie’s Diner. What’s not to love? Great food, great atmosphere, and great service!

Any words of advice for aspiring pilots?

Now is the time for anyone that wants to pursue flying, either for fun, or as a career. I suggest if you’re not quite sure, go to your local airport and get a complimentary flight with a flight school. If you do that, you just might catch the dream of flight, which you will cherish for the rest of your life!

Submit your information and you might just be Bessie's next Featured Flyer!
